FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW MUSIC COMPILATION SPOTLIGHTS VETERAN ARIZONA SONGWRITER
34 bands cover the songs of Phoenix singer/songwriter, Kevin Daly
Phoenix — A three-CD compilation titled Tales From The Dogpile - Kevin Daly Gets Covered, featuring 34 bands and solo artists covering the music of Arizona songwriter Kevin Daly, is to be released October 2, 2012. The title is a reference to the friendly musical brawls that often broke out during Daly’s early shows.
Since 1979, Kevin Daly has lived and worked in Arizona as a contractor and tireless fixture on the Phoenix music landscape. As songwriter, vocalist, and guitar player in a half dozen bands, Daly has performed in every possible setting. His allegiance to Phoenix and its homegrown players has won him a loyal following.
The musicians performing on the CD had their choice of nearly 100 songs Daly has written in various genres: rockabilly, blues, country, punk and rock ‘n roll.
Jimmy Pines & Washboard Jere recorded “Second To None”, a brand new, never recorded gospel song. Jere says. “We are humbled and pleased to contribute to this compilation and it is fitting that Kevin Daly wrote it, because after all, he is an original and Second To None”.
Thomascene Ryther and her Portland based band ManX perform “Quit Holdin' Me.” Ryther says, "This song of Kevin's gets such a great response every time we play, we’ll be including it in our band’s upcoming release.”
Music veteran Rudy Esquiviez recruited his son Rudy Jr. to back him on drums for his cover of “Howl in The Darkness.” "Kevin and I have played the same venues for twenty years. Sometimes we got paid; sometimes the cops shut us down. I jumped at the opportunity to record one of his songs." Rudy Jr. and some of his friends recorded “William Cook” for this release, putting a teenage metal spin on the true story of an American outlaw.
“Some of the artists who contributed songs for this compilation were just teenagers when I was playing guitar in The Geezers or Hellfire,” said Daly. “They snuck into our shows with fake IDs and aspirations of starting their own bands. It’s great to see how they’ve matured into first-rate players in their own right.”
Tales From The Dogpile will be released as a digital music download in three volumes. The first, titled The Rock will be available Oct. 2 to coincide with Daly’s birthday. Volume II, The Roots and volume III, The Ruckus will be available in November and December 2012 respectively.
Kevin Daly currently performs as a solo artist, and plays in the garage-rock trio Grave Danger and the honky-tonk band Chicken and Waffles.
