WEST SACRAMENTO CA (IFS) -- As the mighty wheels of the Platinum Sound Productions group headed by Lee Rogers Craton and Kenneth Howard Smith, started to flex its muscles with the addition of new artists at the Platinum Sound/D-Town Records company in Hollywood. Kay Saunders-Palmer, the executive secretary from the label, decided that she wanted to sign Jena Johnson from Toledo, Ohio. Jena wrote many good songs, however, these two recordings are marked in history as her only releases from Rogers and Smith.
The indie artists that were signed to Platinum Sound/D-Town Records were released of their distribution agreements and retained all of their rights. D-Town Records was transferred to BHSE Enterprises and the daughter of label founder Mike Hanks in 2013. SDC Records is now reissuing most of the 1980's and 90's artists.
Considered as one of the first "Black Punk Rock" records in the history of the music industry. This single received very little airplay from the radio stations if any. However, over the years, this single has managed to be played worldwide.
"Jackie" was the single that the DJ's picked, as they "turned over" the single and began playing this Black Punk song. Most people believed it was a song about Jackie Kennedy, which was further from the truth. It was a song about a transgender person. Still very much out of its league for that time. Saunders and Rogers believed it to be very different indeed. Jena was managed by Sally Smith, who at the time had White Heat, Switch, and DeBarge as her clients.
