To All Who Have Followed My Music Journey....
It has been a long, hot and humid Summer (hottest on record) for Linda and I as we work, every day and many nights too, taking care of the thousand and one details involved in making a "forever" move from our beach community of Playa del Rey, California, to Florida, likely on its Western Coast to be near Linda's older brother.
Much toil and stress getting ready for a ten-day "upgrading" starting Friday to prepare for listing our property, then flying across the country to settle in, to begin with, in an apartment.
If all goes well, we will "plant our flag" in Florida by early Spring.
So that will all take care of itself after a little more fun in Hollywood, first this weekend at Al Bowman's "Birthday Bash" at the Rainbow Cafe." (Al has been one of my biggest supporters, first heading The L.A. Music Awards and then The Producer's Choice Honors in Las Vegas.) In mid-November, if we are still here, I have been nominated at Hollywood Music Awards as "Lyricist of the Year" and will look forward to that last time on stage in Tinseltown.
Just two months ago, long-time music associate Norman McGraw and I won for "Best Christian/Gospel Song" at the Akademia Awards, not long after Frankie M. and I took top honors there for our "Swing Song." So I have been busy branching out into other genres the last year or so. My heart and soul is still in country, and I have three songs backlogged and waiting to be produced.
More than a few have asked why I have not been involved in countless other award programs the past few years. The simple answer is that I would need to be at the events to be considered. And that gets expensive. For the Nashville-based Independent Country Music Awards in 2013 where I was honored for my original country music, that was by a vote of the 1,100 members. No attendance required. Starliner's Europe was a combination listener and staff vote. Same for the Independent Music Network. The Akademia Society is based on a panel of judges who convene in Pasadena about once a month.
So unless I get tapped on the shoulder by the Grammy group five miles up the road in Santa Monica, where I am a member and first-round nominee two years ago, I would say that my awards stage as an Indie-artist is behind me.
I want to go to ACM or CMA and watch an artist win for one of my songs, or take the stage as outstanding songwriter. That would be worth the short hop from Tampa!
Key to me. I am making a concerted effort to retain a publisher in Nashville possibly by the end of the month. That has been my goal since Day One. (Actors need agents and songwriters need publishers.)
Otherwise, you keep seeing the "tunnel at the end of the light." (My words.)
But as I wait, I just released a "Greatest Hits" compilation of songs that I have both written lyrics and composed melodies. Go to the link below the cover art for "Charlie Ecker Songwriter."
This is my fifth compilation, and in my "Down the Back 40 Trilogy" and "Charles Ecker, Speechless" L.P.'s you will hear all the fine co-writers such as Michael Stanton, Tim Horrigan, Dan Rogers and the late-Phil Earhart who contributed to some of my earlier works. You will also hear some mighty fine vocals by Michael, Mike Lusk, Amber Rose and Gigi Worth in the playlists. All sessions Professionals! Kudos also to Michael (L.A.) and Stacy Hogan (Nashville) for their spectacular production work.
All my music can be purchased, BTW, through any of the digital music download services, such as iTunes and cdBaby. (Buck each for singles. Ten bucks for L.P.s, the latter cheaper than a burger and a Coke most places.)
So Linda and I will miss our many friends in our SoCal area as we hope to make new ones back East. And we will have to say goodbye to our beloved "Charlinda," who has taken us out into the Pacific on so many dreamy wind and sun-swept days.
But the only constant in life is change. And that will happen to us very soon, God willing!
Charlie
