| IT'S HERE. So crazy, so weird... honestly never thought I'd put out a project, much less one so intimate and personal to me, but I did and OOOO does it feel right. I'm sure you diehards have already listened through and picked your faves. Those of you who haven't gotten to it yet, I hope you find a song on this project that is yours. |

"Make Me Miss You" is shallow Em. Spunky Em. Bratty, sarcastic, independent Em. I honestly had a hard time with this song because it felt so surface level and dishonest compared to the other songs... and then I realized that was kind of the point here. I WANT guys to be obsessed with me actually. It makes me feel like I have the power and control and this song is honestly just one major flex. It's still a jam though and how 'bout Mike Elizondo on that synth solo huh?!
"Mixed Emotions" was to remind you I'm an emotional wreck who can't make up her mind and beat that "there are a million of me in here" dead horse.
"Things I'm Over" is the reason this project exists. It was the first song that felt like mine, it's probably my favorite song on Identity Crisis. It's wise Em. Grown up Em. Em who wants to be the best version of herself and love the people around her... the Emily who wants to breathe life, not destroy... even if it requires embarrassingly admitting who she's become and why.
"Naked" is insecure Em... but not just insecure Em... ANGRY Em. The Emily who knows that an insecure girl is not who she was made to be and hates that it's getting the best of her. I can't wait for y'all to scream this song at the top of your lungs with me in a concert hall somewhere holy crappppp.
"Healthy" is self sabotage Emily. Guarded Emily. The Emily who wants to stay a kid forever. Also the Emily who deep down wants to be in love but doesn't know if she's cut out for it. The Emily who's scared that an "in love" Emily won't be an interesting Emily. It's probably one of the most intimate songs I've ever written.
And last but DEFINITELY not least is "Something I'm Not." This is confident Emily. And not confident because she has it all together. This Emily is confident because she doesn't... but what she does have is the knowledge that being a mess and herself is way more the plan than living her life according to what another person wants her to be. There is no solution to this identity crisis guys... I'll be learning every day until I die who I am, but I sure as hell know who I'm not and if that's all I got then I'd say I'm gonna live quite the life.
ALSO, it seemed only right to release the video for the song that sums it all up today. The "SOMETHING I'M NOT" video is LIVE! Jared Asher Harris directed it... I look like I rolled out of bed and walked to my douchey boyfriend's house. It's simple, it's normal, it's me. Go check it out on the YouTube page and subscribe while you're there. This is just the beginning guys. I'm a songwriter at heart and I have so much more to say.
I love y'all so much. Thanks for being on the ride with me. I can't wait to sing these songs with y'all in person. I can't wait for you to hear what I have planned next, and I can't wait to watch this music do what I know it was always meant to.
