The Antikythera mechanism dates back to 200 BC and is thought to be an ancient analog computer designed to predict astronomical positions and eclipses. It was recovered from a shipwreck in the Greek islands in 1900. The device was found in a wooden box and is composed of a complex configuration of gears, dials and inscriptions.
